This five day gorilla safari will enable you visit many of the tourist attractions in Rwanda. Traveling from Kigali to Ruhengeri in Northern Rwanda you will visit the Volcanoes National Park to see the gorilla, trek to the top of the Bisoke Mountain to see the volcano crater as well as see the breath-taking scenery of Rwanda.
Day 1: Arrival and city tour.
After an early morning breakfast, your guide will take you on a city tour of Kilgai, where you will visit the Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, the First House, the National Museum, before doing some shopping and then returning to the hotel for lunch. After lunch your guide will transport you to the Volcanoes National Park, where you will have dinner and stay overnight. You can chose from a number of recommended hotels, depending on what your preferences are; Mountain gorilla view lodge [luxury], La palm hotel [mid range] or Muhabura hotel [budget].Meals here are based on F/B.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking
After an early morning breakfast and getting your packed lunch, your guide will transport you to the office of the Volcanoes National Park in the Muzane district and arrange the gorilla family that you will track. Once this has been confirmed you will attend a brief, given by the Park Rangers on the Do’s and Don’ts of gorilla tracking. The tracking will take between two and nine hours, depending on the movements of the gorilla family that you are tracking. Once you have found your gorilla family you will spend one hour with them, observing their movements and taking photographs. You will be accompanied by the Park Rangers at all times during the trek. Please ensure you wear the correct clothing for gorilla tracking – for a full list of items click below .Depending on the time you arrive back to the hotel, we will take a tour to the lake to see the exceptional caves before returning to the hotel for an overnight stay and dinner.
Day 3: Dian Fossey hike.
After breakfast your guide will transport you to the start of the Dian Fossey Hike, where you will take the trail to the Karisoke Research Centre, to see where Dian is buried next to Digit the silverback gorilla she spent years observing. An American anthropologist, Dian spent years researching and conserving the mountain gorillas before she was killed by hunters. During your hike you may encounter primates like vervet monkeys, golden monkeys or even gorillas on the way to the research centre . After visiting the Karisoke Research Centre you will climb Mount Karisimbi where you will camp overnight at an altitude of 3,800mtrs.
Day 4: Volcanic climbing at Bisoke
After an early morning breakfast you will relocate to Mount Bisoke, where you will climb to the top to see the crater and spectacular scenery. After the hike you will return to the hotel for an overnight stay and dinner.
Day 5:Departure day
After a not so early breakfast your guide will transfer you to Kilgali airport/hotel.
